Buchen's high school: 34 million euros for the school dream!
The school landscape in Buchen has taken a significant step forward: the renovation and expansion of the Buchen High School (BGB) has now been successfully completed. With a total cost of around 34 million euros, a large chunk of infrastructural improvements were realized, which not only strengthens the school infrastructure, but also promotes school sport in the region. In addition, the renovation of the sports and games hall will cost around 7 million euros, which shows that investments are being made in the future of the educational facilities. This hall also has an important place in school sports and club work, which is particularly worth highlighting here.
However, the challenges are not insignificant. Mayor Norbert Rippberger from Mudau has expressed concerns about the financial burden on the city's budget, especially given the high costs. Fortunately, a ruling by the Administrative Court, which was decided at the end of 2022, comes into play here. This ruling allows the city to reclaim part of the construction costs from surrounding communities. After all, the proportion of non-resident students in the BGB is an impressive 54 percent, which gives the city additional financial support in terms of responsibility for school education.
A look at financial support
The state government of Bavaria is planning to increase subsidies for school authority tasks. This increase will also apply to ongoing projects and could therefore represent a welcome relief for the municipality. These measures are in the context of the general school building regulations, which regulate the principles for construction and the requirements for school types in Bavaria. This regulation ensures quality school education and sets the necessary standards for the school environment, from new buildings to renovations.
It's not just the city of Buchen that relies on government funding. Throughout Bavaria, municipalities and private providers are responsible for the construction and maintenance of school buildings. The current administrative regulation for school construction funding provides important guidelines and support to ensure the maintenance and expansion of school infrastructure. Architects in Bavaria can rely on resources such as the project search at the Bavarian Chamber of Architects to identify and implement successful building projects and planning aids.

In addition to school education, the location of companies also plays a central role in the economic development of the region. The Rhine-Neckar Chamber of Commerce and Industry is currently planning to elect new members of the general assembly. Eight entrepreneurs from the Neckar-Odenwald district are competing to ensure skilled workers in medium-sized businesses and economic development. Reducing bureaucracy and improving infrastructure are points to which they attach particular importance.
Another cultural contribution to the region comes from the Erfatal Museum Association in Hardheim. An exhibition on Jewish life in the region between 1325 and 1425 opens there next month, following a previous exhibition that looked at the years 1050 to 1325. These initiatives show how closely education, culture and the local economy are linked and that all areas need to be continuously supported and developed.
