50 years of educational advice in Miltenberg: a milestone for families!

The Caritas educational advice center celebrated its 50th anniversary in the Franziskushaus in Miltenberg on July 16. An occasion that brought together many personalities from politics and society in order to honor the valuable work of the facility. Deputy District Administrator Monika Wolf-Pleßmann brought the congratulations from the Miltenberg district and emphasized the significant role of employees who support parents in educational issues. The counseling center, which an eight -member team employs, is a legally anchored offer of youth welfare and deals with a variety of problems within families.

What makes the educational advice center so special? It is open to everyone, regardless of denomination, nationality or age, and always works confidentially. The district of Miltenberg and the Bavarian State Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, Family and Integration are important supporters of this initiative. 445,000 euros are available for 2024, while 460,500 euros are made available in the current financial year to finance 4.5 personnel positions.

The growing challenges

The number of cases increases continuously and reflect the increasing challenges with which families are confronted. Out of 139 assisted cases in the first year, the protagonists of this important position have grown to around 700 cases in 2024. Wolf-Pleßmann emphasized the importance of the advice center for strengthening families and early help with complex concerns. Mayor Bernd Kahlert described the facility as the "place of listening and orientation".

The increasing complexity of inquiries requires a high degree of expertise. The employees of the advice center are qualified and usually have additional psychotherapeutic qualification. This corresponds to the standards, as they are also required by other advice centers in the region. Specialists work in multidisciplinary teams to help the parents and children in the best possible way.

innovations from pandemic

over the years, the offer structure has developed, in particular through the challenges that Corona pandemic brought with it. New advisory formats, such as consulting walks, were introduced to support parents and young people in difficult times. Andreas Purschke, head of the Caritas counseling center in Aschaffenburg, underlined the challenges that parents look forward to today, for example by increasing stress and the influence of media use.

At the end of the celebrations, everyone present in video contributions were able to assert the experiences and the positive influence of the educational advice center. The management, Stéphanie Vieli and Judith Appel, thanked not only the supporters, but also the various cooperation partners who contributed to this success story.

Education advice is therefore not only a place to solve problems, but also a protected space where families can find advice and support. This is impressively underlined by the high numbers of parents and children seeking advice.
