Schliersee: Shocking accident causes traffic jam for two hours!
On Friday morning, June 13, 2025, a shocking accident occurred in Schliersee that kept the region in suspense. A 45-year-old from Schliersee, who was driving a VW Polo, lost control of his vehicle for reasons that are still unclear. The car veered off the road to the left and crashed into a house wall on Seestrasse, at the level of the lido. As Merkur reports, the driver was taken to Agatharied Hospital with suspected serious injuries. Fortunately, uninvolved people were spared.
The emergency services were quickly on the scene: two radio patrol cars, nine firefighters and two vehicles from the Schliersee fire department as well as an ambulance and an emergency doctor were on duty. During the accident investigation and the subsequent clean-up work, there were traffic delays that lasted around two hours. The damage to the wall is significant; it has a large crack and a fire hydrant was also damaged. The total damage is estimated at 15,000 euros. The driver's license was confiscated and police have launched an investigation into endangering road traffic.
Difficult, but not life-threatening
Just one day later, on Saturday evening, another tragic traffic incident occurred in Schliersee, in which a 60-year-old man from Hausham was seriously injured at the unbarred Schliersee-Westerberg railway crossing. His car was hit by a train and thrown into a nearby stream. According to BR, his condition is serious but not life-threatening. The 58-year-old train driver from Gaißach suffered minor injuries and was also taken to hospital. Luckily, around 50 passengers on the train were uninjured.
The accident occurred when the driver tried to cross the railway crossing. The exact course of the accident is currently unclear, and the police have commissioned an accident analysis report and seized the car. A separate accident in Dietersheim on Friday evening confirms the dangers of unguarded level crossings, as another driver suffered a similar incident here.
Road safety remains an issue
These incidents are not only shocking, but also shed light on general road safety in Germany. Statistics show that accidents like these are often caused by various factors. The Federal Statistics on traffic safety provides comprehensive data that serves as a basis for measures in legislation, traffic education and the improvement of road infrastructure. An increased focus on educating people about the dangers of unrestricted railroad crossings could potentially save lives and prevent such tragic accidents.
The dramatic events in Schliersee last weekend are a painful reminder of how careful we have to be in traffic and at railway crossings. Stay alert and safe on our roads!
