Miesbach discusses innovative on-call bus: Holzkirchen model in focus!

An exciting discussion is currently taking place in Miesbach about the future of local public transport. The Hoki on-call bus from Holzkirchen could serve as a model for a similar system in Miesbach. The most recent city council took up the idea of a city bus after extensive debate in the finance committee. Mayor Gerhard Braunmiller (CSU) reported on ongoing tests and discussions regarding various models that could be implemented in the short to medium term. An important concern is examining the feasibility of an on-call bus system, initiated by the proposal from Paul Fertl (SPD).

Again Mercury reports, an information trip to Holzkirchen is to be organized in order to get to know the model there up close. The Hoki on-call bus transported 38,000 passengers in the first half of the year and shows a clear upward trend. This speaks for the acceptance and necessity of such a model. Three possible models were presented to the city council: the Hoki plus, the Waakirchner model with volunteer drivers and a combination of your own and rented buses.

Unified solutions and financial challenges

A central question remains: How do you finance a new system sustainably? The CSU has suggested checking the financial burden to at least 100,000 euros per year in order to be able to assess this in the budget. Florian Ruml from the Free Voters also emphasized that failed models of the past should be analyzed in order to avoid future mistakes. The Greens, represented by second mayor Astrid Güldner, emphasize the importance of the on-call bus system for people without a car and support the city's efforts.

The presentation of concrete concepts should take place in the city council in the first quarter of 2026. It is pointed out that the aim is to achieve a uniform solution for the entire district, a requirement that Markus Baumgartner (CSU) considers necessary. He refers to the discontinued shared taxi service and wonders how such projects can be prevented in the future.

The advantages of on-call bus systems

In Germany, passenger numbers in local public transport (ÖPNV) have been increasing again since 2022. This is how they transport VDV member company around 26 million passengers every day. These systems save around 18 million car journeys every day and therefore make a significant contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. An example from Holzkirchen shows how modern app technology makes public transport more integrative and user-friendly: Users of the hoki app can book their trips around the clock, either via the app or by telephone.

The Hoki on-call bus uses an intelligent algorithm to calculate the optimal route and allows passengers with similar destinations to be matched. Such flexibility could also be a decisive advantage in Miesbach in order to attract as many people as possible to use local public transport.

The first results of the variant testing are imminent, and citizens can be excited to see which solutions and models will be presented next year. It remains to be hoped that the implementation will be successful and Miesbach will receive a modern, efficient local transport system.
