Mayor taps Miesbacher Volksfest with four strokes!

On Friday evening the time had finally come: the Miesbach folk festival opened with a lot of joy and tradition. Mayor Gerhard Braunmiller got out of a magnificent carriage, accompanied by his wife Alexandra and the host couple Yvonne and Anian Kurz, and tapped the tap with a celebratory “O’zapft is!” the first beer barrel. However, the mayor needed four strokes for this, although the first, as he himself noted with a wink, didn't really count - a "half a stroke", so to speak. Whether this is part of his fine sense of humor or perhaps a good hand next time remains to be seen. The folk festival will now be celebrated over ten days, so there's something special for the people of Miesbach and their guests!

Even before tapping, the concert by the town band Michael delighted visitors at the market square. Afterwards, the festive procession with magnificently decorated horses and brewery wagons moved to the Waitzinger Wiese, the actual folk festival site. Here the festivities began with a thumbs up and a cool drink in the beer garden.

Colorful program for everyone

The mayor was visibly happy about the restored tradition and the associated conviviality, which is the focus of Miesbach every year. On Saturday, the day continues with a vintage car breakfast for the automobile-loving community, where participants will be rewarded with a Hendl voucher. The youth band of the Miesbach town band and the dedicated youth plattler group will also perform and contribute to the festive setting. In addition, the “Fetzengaudi” event with the well-known Grossstoana is on the program from 6:30 p.m.

The Miesbacher Volksfest is much more than just a festival – it reflects the culture and the community. Traditional festivals like this, which are deeply rooted in Bavaria, can also be found in other parts of the Free State. One example is the Viehscheid in the Allgäu, where the return of the animals from the alpine meadows to the villages is celebrated. Such traditions are not only important for the locals, but also attract many visitors who want to experience Bavarian culture first hand. You can find out more about this on experience.bavaria.

Cultural highlights

There will also be many highlights for the members of the Miesbach traditional costume club in the coming year. Compared to previous years, there will be a lot to experience, from children's carnival to the strong beer festival to various performances for the community. In 2024, the club will also celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Oberlandler Gauverband Dietramszell, a real reason to celebrate!

In Miesbach and the surrounding area there is a real festival culture that enriches life in the region. Whether chatting in the beer garden or dancing together - the Bavarian joy of life is omnipresent. With the Miesbacher Volksfest, citizens now have the opportunity to immerse themselves in this tradition and treat themselves to a piece of home while enjoying life to the fullest again.
