Police take action: Tuning meeting in Memmingen escalates!

A big meeting of the autoposer scene in Memmingen caused a stir last weekend. Originally planned in Ulm, the activities quickly moved to Memmingen, where the police responded to the situation with an extensive operation. Chief Inspector Anja Wegmann from the Swabia South/West Police Headquarters emphasizes the clear zero tolerance for security disruptions and threats. “We take these meetings seriously and must take appropriate measures,” said Wegmann, who acted as a spokeswoman for the press office and described the events that developed around the tuning meeting.

The meeting of tuning fans was announced via social media and attracted several hundred participants. On the night of Saturday to Sunday, the emergency services checked around 300 vehicles and 500 people in a joint operation with the city of Ulm. A helicopter provided additional support, keeping an eye on the situation from the air. The police discovered numerous violations: around 20 drivers face charges for administrative offenses. Six vehicles were immobilized due to technical defects and around 30 drivers were fined because they violated the city's general ordinance.

Lots of noise and some accidents

In total, the meeting attracted around 1,000 participants to Memmingen and Altenstadt, which caused a lot of noise. The scene was really loud: tires squealed, wheels spun, and loud music boomed through the streets. The police also had to seize several vehicles as part of their checks. But the situation was not entirely without incident: While driving to a meeting point in Altenstadt, there were several rear-end collisions in which vehicles were damaged and three people were slightly injured.

However, in the context of similar events, a worrying trend emerges. In the past, similar tuning meetings took place in North Rhine-Westphalia, where several thousand participants from different countries met. The police were also called upon there, and there were dangerous maneuvers and both verbal and physical attacks on the officers. At one of these events, police officers were even pelted with fireworks 20 minutes knows to report.

Outlook and police measures

The repeated need for police operations during such events does not leave the officers in Memmingen idle. It remains to be seen what further measures will be taken to impose both legal barriers and clear safety requirements on the tuning scene. Wegmann assures that they are keeping an eye on the situation and reacting decisively to ensure both order and the safety of citizens. The police are ready to take further steps to tackle the growing tuning culture in the region.

Allgäu newspaper reports on the current developments and we will continue to report on this topic, which can be expected in the coming weeks.
