Memmingen is moving boldly into the future: climate-neutral heat by 2040!
Memmingen is driving forward the development towards a climate-neutral heat supply. The goal of achieving greenhouse gas-neutral heat supply by 2040 is formulated in a comprehensive municipal heating plan, which can be viewed on the city's website. The aim is to develop a reliable, affordable and future-proof heat supply for all citizens and companies.
Mayor Jan Rothenbacher emphasizes the importance of the plan, which offers guidance to both owners and companies. The planning takes into account the city's energy potential and identifies sensible heating networks as well as decentralized solutions such as heat pumps. Citizens are also invited to comment on the results and measures by December 16, 2025. Your opinion will be actively incorporated into further planning.
Four central areas of action
In order to adapt and optimize the planning, the city of Memmingen is calling on citizens to take part in an online survey. This survey is a first step in the inventory analysis of the existing heat supply and collects important information about household sizes, energy requirements and heating technologies. This data is essential to ensure tailor-made planning for the Memmingen urban area. Heat energy consumption accounts for over 50% of total German final energy consumption and contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions, highlighting the urgency of these measures. The creation of the municipal heat plan is financially supported, with Z-U-G covering 90% of the costs. At the end of July 2024, Memmingen received the positive funding decision and an external service provider was commissioned to develop the plan. The city plans to complete the municipal heat planning by December 31, 2025. This measure is not only an important step for the environment, but also strategic guidance for future investments, funding measures and projects in the next few years. The Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection is promoting planning as part of the National Climate Protection Initiative, which shows how seriously the city takes its responsibility for a sustainable future.
