Memmingen Border Police: Arrest warrants uncovered – travel plans shattered!

There was a lot going on at Memmingen Airport on Thursday. The border police executed several arrest warrants and caught a 23-year-old man who was on his way to Belgrade, Serbia. There was an arrest warrant against him from Lower Saxony for particularly serious theft. The young man was unable to start his journey and was brought before a judge on the same day. Such border police operations are currently not uncommon, especially during the Whitsun holidays Allgäu newspaper reported.

But a 35-year-old man from Skopje, North Macedonia, was also less lucky than he expected. He wanted to enter Germany, but turned out to be a wanted person - an arrest warrant was issued against him for driving without a license from Bavaria. He was lucky because he was able to avoid the arrest warrant by paying around 600 euros and was allowed to continue his journey.

Increased controls and illegal entries

In recent months, border controls at German airports and borders have increased significantly. Since the introduction of systematic controls at the national borders in September 2024, over 22,000 unauthorized entries have been detected in just 140 days daily news reported. The authorities reported that a large number of outstanding arrest warrants were also executed and many people without valid documents were turned away.

But the recent events at Memmingen Airport show that unauthorized entry is not the only issue. An example of this is a 37-year-old man from Moldova who was stopped when entering Germany because he could not provide plausible information about his stay and also did not have enough cash for his stay. This man was also turned away from the next flight.

In addition, the police discovered that a Georgian woman and another Moldovan had each been staying in Germany illegally for a long time. Both had to pay around 400 euros to secure the criminal proceedings in order to be able to travel home. Such cases are part of the authorities' comprehensive strategy to combat irregular migration and increase security.

Overall, it can be seen that the controls at the German borders, mainly emphasized by the new focus on the rejection of unauthorized entries, are strongly perceived by the population. The aim of politics is to reduce irregular migration and ensure the security of citizens - an issue that will continue to be very important in the future.
