Lupine field day in Altenkunstadt: Discover the future of agriculture!
On Friday, June 27th, everything revolves around the lupine in Altenkunstadt. From 5 to 7 p.m. the State Institute for Agriculture (LFL) a field day that deals intensively with cultivation, breeding and use of this special plant. Participation is free of charge, and interested parties are invited to register for the event-either by email or simply spontaneously passed. The event location, the agricultural company of Norbert Konrad in Langheimerstr. 11, also offers enough parking spaces.
The lupine, a domestic leguminosis, has recently gained importance in recent years. In the past, it was pushed back by the mushroom disease anthracnosis, especially in the 1990s. Today, thanks to targeted breeds, she celebrates a comeback, so that varieties such as "Frieda" and "Celina" are presented. The breeding researcher Manuel Deyerler will introduce these varieties and respond to the advantages of the lupins: their high raw protein content makes them an excellent alternative to soybean.
a new seal of approval for the lupine
sweet lupins are particularly interesting because they offer high -quality proteins and can be well grown in ecological agriculture at the same time. In 2022 in Germany, for example, around 14,000 hectares of sweet lupins were cultivated, which makes up for 44% of the total acreage. These plants need light, well -permeable soils and improve the soil structure due to their tap roots. Thanks to their consolidation of air nitrogen, they can also do without larger amounts of mineral fertilizer.
Not everything shines on the lupine. The plant contains qualcaloid qualoids that can have harmful effects if they are consumed in too high quantities. These contain a bitter taste and can negatively influence both humans and animals. The Federal Institute for Risk Assessment has therefore defined strict guidelines for the content of these alkaloids in food and feed, which are important when breeding. However, the use of the plant was significantly improved by the selection of low -alkaloids.
innovative products and tastings
Another highlight of the field day will be the presentation of the lupine coffee, which is produced by the Fortezza coffee roaster. Managing Director Rainer Langguth will show visitors how lupins are transformed into a regional coffee product. On the occasion, guests can also enjoy a tasting and convince themselves of the advantages that the lupine in the kitchen offers.
The cultivation of lupins seems not only sensible from an ecological point of view, but also economically attractive. The demand for protein -rich plants is growing, and so the lupine cultivation could continue to boom in the coming years. So if you learn more about this versatile plant or just want to be inspired, come to the field day in Altenkunstadt!
