New district office opened in Essenbach: modernity for Landshut!
A significant step for the administration in the Landshut district was taken on September 17, 2025: The new district office at Josef-Neumeier-Allee 1 in Essenbach was ceremoniously inaugurated. After around three years of construction and the fulfillment of a district council resolution from the regional reform in 1972, the impressive administration building was officially opened for use. During the ceremony, District Administrator Peter Dreier emphasized the need to resolve the lack of space and efficiently bring together various administrative units. These measures are of great importance not only for the employees, but also for the citizens, who will benefit from a citizen-oriented service in the future.
Numerous guests of honor were present at the inauguration ceremony, including Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann, who emphasized the importance of a modern administration for regional development, and Bavarian Economics Minister Hubert Aiwanger, who praised the advantages of the new structure for companies. He referred to the positive signal that the new district office represents for the economic dynamism in the region. The architect Helmut Dasch also symbolically handed over the key to the new building and pointed out the successful integration of the building into the surrounding landscape.
Challenges and progress
Around 300 craftsmen were at work every day at the construction site on Josef-Neumeier-Allee to push the project forward. The work not only included laying tiles and painting walls, but also installing acoustic ceilings and installing fire protection elements. Nevertheless, there were delays in the construction process, for example due to a leak in the innovative ice storage that occurred due to improper insulation. Managing director Thomas Stöckl of LAKUBAU said that despite such difficulties, the commissioning of the new district office was possible in the current heating season and that the economic plan was not at risk.
The original construction costs were around 75 million euros, but the price increases increased the estimated costs to over 99 million euros, which remains below the set cost cap of 105 million euros. The district was well positioned as a tenant, ensuring financing with less than one percent of the district levy.
Planned opening and future events
The move of the first administrative units is scheduled for September 25th, with the official opening day on October 6th. In addition, an open day will be offered on November 9th, where citizens will have the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of the new administration building.
The founding of the municipal company LAKUBAU, which took on the tasks relating to the construction and maintenance of the new district office, proved to be sensible. It enables transparent financing and economic relief that benefits the district. With a loan of 55 million euros, which was fixed at an interest rate of less than one percent, the financial framework conditions can be easily adhered to.
All in all, it is clear that the new district office represents not just a slow but an important step towards a modern, citizen-oriented administration. The commitment of everyone involved - from the craftsmen to the political decision-makers - shows that great progress is being made in the Landshut region to meet the requirements of the future.
