Steam locomotive 70 083 celebrates comeback: nostalgia and cheers in Landshut!
A very special piece of railway history will be celebrated in Landshut this weekend: the steam locomotive 70 083 of the Bavarian Localbahn Association (BLV) is solemnly put into operation. After a seven-year restoration, the locomotive returns to the rails on time for the 50th anniversary of the club and is the last surviving copy of the Bavarian series 70, which saw the light of day in 1913. As Merkur until its resignation in 2018 was regularly deployed, especially with the popular Nikolaus and winter trips around the picturesque Tegernsee.
The final ceremony is also accompanied by a great exhibition that the steam locomotive day 7 presents. This piece of jewelry was built for the Tegernsee-Bahn in 1936 and is one of the heart of the BLV collection. The diesel locomotive V65-12 from 1959, which was only saved in 2022 and will soon be ready for operation, will also be seen. Further highlights include the railway day 27 of Lake Tegernsee and a historic steam train of the Bavarian Railway Museum, which drives from Nördlingen to Landshut on Saturday and holds in the Munich area.
Review of the history of the locomotive 70 083
The steam locomotive 70 083 has a moving past. After she was retired in the BW Ansbach in 1963, some Bundesbahn officials managed to keep them from the scrapping. First parked in the BW Munich Ost, in 1995 it found a place as a monument in Mühldorf am Inn. The city took care of the preservation and in 2005 the good piece was finally repaired in the Meiningen steam locomotive. A collaboration with the BLV made it possible to return to the tracks, so that the first public trips of the 70 083 already took place at the beginning of May 2005, such as Blv-online
The history of the railway in Germany is impressive and goes back to 1835 when the first railway, the Ludwigseisenbahn between Nuremberg and Fürth, started operating with steam locomotives. Since then, rail traffic has developed with an impressive route long, which was located in 2020 at 33,399 kilometers and promoted billions of passengers year after year, as wikipedia

The reunion with this nostalgic locomotive promises to become an exciting experience full of history and emotions, whereby the BLV and the city of Landshut keep their passion for the railroad alive.
