Citizens fight for privacy: concerns about Solarpark in Neuenmarkt
In the district of Kulmbach, there is a lot to be found in renewable energies. However, a planned solar park in Neuenmarkt creates shared opinions among the citizens. The renowned company Münch, which is considered a pioneer in photovoltaics in Germany, is planning a project with a capacity of 43 megawatts. At an information event in the Neuenmarkt community hall, in which around 140 interested residents were able to take part, project manager Sertan Pollat presented the current plans and responded to the feedback from the population. While the commitment to renewable energies is high, there are also not insignificant concerns that have been formulated by the Neuenmarkter community. Although this supports the expansion of open space PV systems, this expresses important objections.
Above all, the planned areas along the Austrasse come across headwinds, since the solar modules provided there are supposed to reach a height of five meters. This is regarded as an unreasonable impairment for the residents. In order to counteract this problem, there were suggestions to shift the southern border of the planning area to the north side of the Gütleinbach. This would not only create privacy protection through bank growth, but also enable a natural separation between the solar park and the cultural landscape. Another proposal concerns the integration of an abandoned biogas plant as a balance for possible space losses. In addition, construction site traffic should not be handled via the Austrasse, but via an economic path to the composting system in order to relieve the residents.

A central concern of the initiators is to consider the environmental issue. The Neuenmarkter Community explicitly demands that the drainage report takes into account the seepage of the soil in order to ensure the formation of groundwater. This is particularly important because the planned special area includes around 52 hectares that have so far been used for agriculture. In the north, the area borders on an FFH area, while the south comes across a biotope worth protecting-areas that have a high value for recreation and quality of living.
Special attention is also paid to the training and equipment of the local fire brigades in order to be prepared for PV systems in the event of a fire. These costs are to be borne by the operator, which is discussed in the community. The goal of expanding renewable energies is undisputed, but people must also be heard and taken seriously.
