Women strengthen politics in Haßgau: Important call for participation!
The eagerly awaited female politician talk took place in Haßfurt on Thursday evening under the motto “Women in Politics”. The market square of the Haßfurt Christmas Village was a lively meeting place for numerous interested parties who took the opportunity to talk directly to elected officials and test their knowledge. The event, which attracted great interest, was organized by the Haßberge district's equal opportunities office. As Hassberge.de reports, the wheel of fortune, on which participants could answer questions, promised sweet prizes. The questions included topics such as the number of female mayors in the Haßberge district and women's first right to vote in Germany.
Particularly impressive was the participation of young women, who spoke with a mixture of surprise and motivation about the low number of women in political office. One of them plans to run for a city council list in the March 2026 election - a sign that the next generation is ready to take on responsibility and actively participate. Her fellow campaigner, who is not yet of age, also shows great commitment to political events and emphasizes the importance of being involved in local politics.
Promote networking and exchange
The equal opportunities office regularly organizes networking meetings for elected officials and politically interested women in the district. The next meeting will take place on Wednesday, January 21st, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Haßberge district office. Those interested are asked to register in advance by email. According to Mainfranken.news, the aim of these meetings is to encourage women to take responsibility and to actively intervene in the political shaping of their environment.
It's no secret that equality in politics still has a long way to go. Although women make up 51% of the population, their share in local parliaments is only around 23%. Just 10% of town halls are run by women. The “Politics Needs Women” day of action, which has been organized by the Lower Franconian equal opportunities officers for eight years, aims to promote women in politics and give them the tools they need to integrate politically. The next day of action will take place on October 18th in Würzburg.
The challenges of equality
Reality shows that access for women to political office is still not a given. The average proportion of women in state parliaments is around 33%, while the proportion in municipal representations fluctuates around 30.5%. The website Women.Vielfalt.Politics addresses the existing glass ceiling, which still prevents women from reaching higher decision-making levels today. Only 11.2% of district administrators in the districts are female, which underlines the need for binding quotas and targeted support.
Overall, it can be said that events such as the women politicians talk and the networking meetings make an important contribution to the visibility and promotion of women in politics. They not only create a space for exchange, but also motivate the next generations to fight for more equality and to actively participate in political shaping.
