Mountain and winter combat school: Danger from military exercises!
The anticipation for the upcoming combat training at the mountain and winter combat school in Mittenwald is increasing. From October 21st to 23rd, 2025, intensive training will be held in the picturesque Oberreintal, focusing on the challenges of operations in rough terrain and extreme weather conditions. The training uses modern technologies: a drone is used to teach the soldiers valuable skills.
A well-functioning rescue chain is essential, especially in such more demanding environments. Therefore, if necessary, a SAR helicopter is also called in to provide support. The Bundeswehr's SAR service, which coordinates search and rescue efforts in Germany, ensures that everyone can be taken to hospital safely and quickly if something goes wrong. Interestingly, the SAR service not only leads the Bundeswehr, but the navy, police and other organizations are also involved in the operations. The coordination takes place via regional centers in Münster and Glücksburg, which can intervene at any time if there is an emergency - as reported by Wikipedia.
Important information for the population
In view of the upcoming exercises, the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district office urges the population to stay away from the exercising troops. This is not only a safety measure, but also necessary in order not to unnecessarily distract the soldiers during their training. In addition, attention is drawn to the dangers posed by potentially lying military explosives that may remain in the area during such exercises. Anyone who finds such items should definitely call the police.
Another important detail: Damage caused by training, for example as a result of operational exercises, must be reported to the responsible municipality within one month of the exercise, unless this damage has already been repaired by damage teams from the armed forces.
Available for questions and concerns
The Bundeswehr Aviation Office is available to the public to answer questions and complaints regarding the use of military helicopters. A free citizen hotline is set up and can be reached from Monday to Thursday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on 0800 - 8620730. Concerns can also be sent by email to FLIZ@bundeswehr.org be sent.
With these measures, the Bundeswehr is creating a secure basis for the upcoming training courses and ensuring that both the soldiers and the population are protected. Preparations are in full swing and we can look forward to the results of the intensive combat training.
