What a special day for the community of Mauth! Franz Schmid, affectionately known as “Ferdei”, was honored as a field jury on the occasion of his 50 years of commitment. November 9, 2025 will always hold a special place in his heart. At a festive ceremony in the Freyung District Office, District Administrator Sebastian Gruber presented the award, which is not only a recognition of Schmid's many years of commitment, but also a sign of the importance of this tradition.

“He is very familiar with fields and meadows,” says Gruber. As a field jury, Franz Schmid plays a crucial role because these men are indispensable partners for the administration and the citizens. They bring together technical know-how and local knowledge in one person. Matthias Holstein, the head of the Office for Digitalization, Broadband and Surveying in Freyung, recalled that the field jury system has been part of our culture for around 600 years and, despite all technical developments, still enjoys great importance among citizens.

At the honor, Franz Schmid not only received a certificate, but also a print of the original historical recording of his hometown and a small present.
