Complete closure of the B2: renovation work between Germering and Puchheim!

In the coming week there will be drastic changes on Federal Highway 2 between Germering and Puchheim. From June 23rd to July 13th, 2025, the entire section from the Germering Nord junction (A 99) to the exit onto St 2069 in Puchheim-Ort will be completely closed due to urgently needed renovation work. This measure was necessary in order to repair serious road damage, which has recently led to significant disruption to traffic, as reported by unser-wuermtal.de.

The Freising State Building Authority has taken responsibility for carrying out the work and asks all road users for their understanding. Diversion routes will be set up so that traffic from Fürstenfeldbruck can be redirected via Gröbenzell (U 4) towards the Munich – Lochhausen junction. Especially for those who want to leave the A 99 via Germering Nord, there is an alternative route via the Munich-Lochhausen junction (A 99) and the needs-oriented diversion route U 21, as stbafs.bayern.de explains.

Rehabilitation and rerouting

The construction work requires a complete shutdown of the B2 in the affected section. If the weather is good, the work will proceed as planned, but delays may occur in unfavorable weather conditions. The road traffic authority asks all affected drivers to follow the signposted detours and pay attention to traffic routing.

In a larger context, this case shows the federal government's ongoing efforts to improve transport infrastructure. After the budget of the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport was approved by the Bundestag on January 30, 2024, a total of 44.15 billion euros are available for the transport sector. This includes significant funds for the renovation of federal roads, where expenditure of 12.8 billion euros is targeted, as bundestag.de reports.

The discussion about transport infrastructure is also evident in the context of the political conflict of opinion. While the Union criticizes the high costs of CO2 taxes and the increase in truck tolls, the FDP describes the budget as a “budget of reason” and emphasizes the investments in rail expansion. The need to promote both roads and rail as part of an integrated transport system is becoming increasingly urgent. It is clear that investments must have a relief not only for road traffic, but also for alternative modes of transport.
