Tragedy at the Aquapark: 73-year-old woman drowns in Moosburg

A terrible incident caused consternation on Thursday, June 12, 2025, in the “Aquapark” swimming lake in Moosburg an der Isar. As pfaffenhofen-today.de reports, the body of a 73-year-old woman from the Landshut district was recovered from the water at around 12:15 p.m. Passers-by initially discovered the lifeless woman on the surface of the water and immediately alerted her. Unfortunately, attempts at resuscitation by the rescue workers and the emergency doctor present were unsuccessful.

The police have taken over the investigation and it is currently assumed that this was a tragic swimming accident. There is so far no evidence of foreign influence or external circumstances that could have led to her death, as the Bavarian Police confirmed. The Erding Criminal Police Inspectorate has taken over further investigations to clarify the exact circumstances of the accident.

A worrying trend

This incident sheds light on an increasingly serious problem. According to the DLRG, there were at least 411 fatal swimming accidents in Germany in 2023, an increase of 31 cases compared to the previous year. This number marks the first time since 2019 that more than 400 people have drowned in water. DLRG President Ute Vogt expressed the hope that such tragic events will make people, especially parents, aware of the dangers of swimming.

The last few years have shown that the number of drownings is continuously increasing. Against this background, it is particularly important to strengthen safety precautions at bathing areas and to inform people about the risks and correct behavior in and around the water. In view of the upcoming hot season, the DLRG appeals to all water sports enthusiasts and swimmers to be particularly careful.

The tragic story of this woman from the Landshut district reminds us how quickly fate can change and how important responsible mindfulness is when bathing. We hope that such incidents do not happen again and that all swimming trips remain a safe pleasure.
