Fatal swimming accident in the Aquapark Moosburg: 73-year-old found dead

A tragic death occurred on Thursday in the Aquapark swimming lake in Moosburg an der Isar. A 73-year-old woman from the Landshut district died during a swimming trip. At around 12:15 p.m., passers-by discovered a lifeless person floating in the water and immediately pulled him out. In this dramatic situation, the first responders immediately began resuscitation measures. Unfortunately, even after the rescue workers and an emergency doctor arrived, they were unsuccessful, so the woman could not be saved. The Erding Criminal Police Inspectorate has taken over the investigation into this swimming accident and has so far assumed that it was an unfortunate accident, with no evidence of external influences or other people involved. The Süddeutsche Zeitung reports on this incident and its shocking development.

The incident, reported on June 12, 2025, happened at a time when more and more people are enjoying swimming in German waters. However, with the warm season approaching, the risk of accidents in the water is often underestimated. Current statistics from the DLRG show an alarming increase in fatal swimming accidents: In 2023 there were 411 fatal accidents in German waters, which means an increase of 31 deaths compared to the previous year. This is the third year in a row that drownings have increased. The DLRG emphasizes the need to make people aware of the dangers of bathing.

Raising awareness of water safety

The President of the DLRG, Ute Vogt, expresses the hope that people will become more aware of the risks in the warm season. The DLRG would like to pay particular attention to the dangers for small children, who are often careless near water.

In light of this tragic incident, we should all be asking ourselves how we can increase water safety. Behaviors such as only swimming in safe areas and supervising children at all times can help prevent similar accidents in the future. The incident in Moosburg should give us reason to pay more attention to our own safety and that of others - because a beach trip should bring relaxation and fun, not tragedy.

The criminal police in Erding are still investigating what exactly led to this tragic accident. The community and those responsible for the swimming lake are in close contact to prevent future incidents of this kind. The Bavarian police is still looking for information that could help clarify the case.
