Freising city council fights for safety in Sünzhausen: natural garden ahead!
In Freising, the establishment of the new Schönegge natural garden on a farm in Viehhausen is being closely followed. However, the traffic expected from the associated construction work and subsequent operations is a growing concern. The SPD parliamentary group in the Freising city council has now submitted an application that targets the safety of residents in Sünzhausen. One focus is on possible measures to relieve congestion on Bergstrasse during and after the construction phase. Mercury reports that access to the project should primarily be via the district road FS 34 and the Hirtenanger junction in Gremertshausen, but there are also concerns that a significant part of the traffic will use the mountain road directly in Sünzhausen.
It quickly becomes clear: Bergstrasse is anything but ideal for through traffic. With its narrow dimensions and lack of a sidewalk, it is regularly used by children to play and cycle. The SPD is therefore calling for, among other things, the installation of a right-before-left sign at the junction with Pfarrweg and a speed limit of 30 km/h. In addition, speed-reducing measures such as tree troughs should also be examined and the bus stop at the foot of the mountain road should be secured. These demands come from a motion that was submitted at the last city council meeting and is now up for discussion. Loud SPD Freising There should also be a permanent exchange with the Naturgarten management in order to control and minimize traffic flows during the construction period.
Traffic safety in Sünzhausen
The SPD's proposal aims to improve the safety of citizens in a place that could soon be burdened by increased traffic. The district road FS 34 is a main road that will be important for future access to the farm. However, there is great concern that Bergstrasse is increasingly becoming a secondary road for through traffic, which could endanger not only residents but also children and cyclists. The problem is the narrow and confusing situation, which does not allow fast driving, as local city councilors emphasize.
To protect everyone involved, the aim is not only to calm traffic, but also to remove signposts to Viehhausen in order to better regulate traffic flows. The situation is also complicated because an adjacent project – a horse boarding house – in the neighboring community of Kranzberg is currently on hold. The local council has initially rejected all applications, which has delayed the entire planning for the location of the natural garden.
STEP 2030 urban development plan
An overarching goal of the city of Freising is the sustainable development of the urban area, as set out in the urban development plan STEP 2030. This plan, which was unanimously approved by the city council in summer 2014, aims to make the city customer-oriented, sustainable and future-oriented. Freising.de describes that in addition to securing traffic routes, the establishment of new projects, such as the natural garden, also plays an important role.
It remains to be seen how the city administration will react to the application and what specific measures can ultimately be implemented. One thing is certain: the safety of residents in Sünzhausen has top priority.
