Forchheim is a vacation for everyone: New brochure for accessibility!
In Forchheim, the city administration has taken a significant step towards inclusion. On June 23, 2025, the new “Wheelchair Accessible” brochure was published, which is specifically intended for guests with limited mobility. This practical overview is intended to make planning your stay in the city easier. The brochure contains comprehensive information about barrier-free parking spaces, toilet facilities, leisure facilities and restaurants in Forchheim. A particular plus point is the detailed paving plan of the city center, which shows a wheelchair-accessible circular route and makes it easier for guests to find their way around. A color-coded traffic light system also leads through the most important points of the city and offers quick orientation. This valuable project was supported by VdK barrier consultant Thomas Kaul and the city's barrier officer Manfred Hümmer. Wiesentbote reports that the brochure is available free of charge at the Tourist Information Forchheim and online.
But that's not all that the Forchheim region has to offer for travelers with mobility disabilities. There is an exciting compilation of barrier-free accommodations around Forchheim on the Outdooractive website. Here you will find wheelchair-accessible hotels, holiday apartments and even holiday homes that are specially equipped to meet the needs of people with disabilities. A highlight is the Hotel “Goldner Stern” in the climatic health resort of Muggendorf, which not only offers comfort but also the charm of Franconian Switzerland. The picturesque meadow promenade and the listed Birkenreuther fountain also invite you to enjoy a relaxing view. Curiously, the well, which was dug in 1796, also becomes a special piece of jewelry during Easter. Outdooractive informs also about the largest Easter fountain in the world in Bieberbach, which is immortalized in the Guinness Book of Records with 11,108 hand-painted eggshells.
Growing demand for accessibility
Interest in barrier-free tourism is constantly increasing and not only Forchheim, but also many other regions are required to adapt to this. How Brandenburg Tourism Network reports, the demand for a barrier-free environment is growing among both guests and locals. Municipalities are therefore required to create suitable infrastructure in public spaces. An example of this is the municipality of Schwielowsee, which has already started initial improvement measures by recording accessibility in public spaces and at selected tourist providers. The flyers there contain maps for barrier-free routes and provide information about various offers for people with different needs.
With these initiatives, Forchheim shows that it is ready to meet the growing demand for barrier-free offerings. Inclusion becomes not just lip service, but part of everyday life in the region. The new brochure is a first but important step to enable guests with limited mobility to have an unforgettable stay in Forchheim.
