Girls from Neumarkt collect 555 euros for children with cancer!
The weather put a damper on our plans last Friday, but the commitment of the students at the Neumarkt State Secondary School for Girls was not affected by this. The fundraising event planned for the day had to be canceled due to unpleasant weather, but class 7b showed that you can do a lot in your free time. With an impressive effort, the 30 girls raised a total of 555 euros for the children's palliative care center at Erlangen University Hospital.
Dr. Chara Gravou-Apostolatou, the spokesperson for the palliative care center, was able to receive the donation. In a short word of thanks, she acknowledged the remarkable achievements of the young donors and emphasized how important such actions are for improving the care of seriously ill children. “Every support counts and helps to increase the quality of life of these families,” says Dr. Gravou Apostolatou.
Joint commitment in the region
This commitment is not just limited to Neumarkt. The community is also showing great solidarity in other cities. At the summer festival and charity run on the grounds of the North Sports Center in Waltrop, numerous children let their running shoes do the talking. In addition to Mayor Marcel Mittelbach and state parliament member Lisa Kapteinat, many sponsors also took part and supported the event with prizes for the raffle. The head of the children's palliative care center, Professor Boris Zernikow, praised the commitment of the young people and emphasized the importance of such community events in supporting palliative care. The need for support is highlighted by the challenges of palliative care. In the children's area, pediatricians and specialized nursing services provide basic care, which includes medical care and the relief of symptoms such as pain and shortness of breath. If your health deteriorates, general outpatient palliative care is used. Pediatricians, nursing services and specialists in social pediatric centers stand hand in hand here. [gesund.bund.de]
Support from volunteers
Outpatient hospice services also offer important support to relieve the burden on families. Volunteers give families time and space. They accompany and relieve the parents and siblings while they look after the sick children. These offers are free of charge for those affected and offer valuable help in stressful everyday life. The great commitment of the Neumarkt students and the many supporters in the region are a strong sign of solidarity. Whether it's fundraising events, sporting events or volunteer help - this togetherness makes a real difference and shows that we are strong together.
