German-Polish partnership: New plans for 2026 in Tarnowskie Góry!
A very special exchange recently took place in the Polish partner district of Tarnowskie Góry. The chairman of the Friends of Erlangen-Höchstadt/Tarnowskie Góry, Manfred Bachmayer, was warmly welcomed by District Administrator Adam Chmiel. During this visit, which took place shortly before Christmas, Christmas greetings were not only delivered by District Administrator Alexander Tritthart, but the course was also set for future cooperation between the two districts.
The good neighborliness between Germany and Poland is particularly evident in the further development of the district partnership. During the conversation it emerged that cooperation between schools is a central concern of District Administrator Chmiel. This shows the desire to strengthen relationships across generations and to open up promising perspectives.
Planned activities for 2026
Various activities are already being planned for 2026 that are intended to intensify cooperation. Among other things, German-Polish open-air painting is on the agenda in both districts. In addition, there is a citizens' trip by the circle of friends, which aims to promote exchange between different sections of the population.
Another highlight will be the eagerly awaited “20 Years of Partnership” cycling project, which will take place from June 12th to 20th. The route leads from Tarnowskie Góry through several cities, including Opole and Pilsen, to Erlangen-Höchstadt.
A symbol of peace and friendship
The cycling project wants to promote peace, friendship and a borderless Europe at the stations. The highlight is the ceremonial arrivals, such as on June 20th at 11 a.m. at the district office in Erlangen, where all interested parties are warmly welcome. The review of the 2024 cycling project “Europe is growing together”, which already began in Berlin, highlights the continuity and eagerness of commuters and strengthens awareness of the closely linked history between these two regions.
The importance of German-Polish relations should not be underestimated, as the Foreign Office also states. Since the signing of the German-Polish Neighborhood Treaty in 1991, this relationship has developed dynamically and forms the basis for close cooperation in both the EU and NATO. Over 500 town partnerships and cross-border youth exchanges, especially through the German-Polish Youth Office, reinforce this positive trend.
With the constant development of relations, not only cooperation on a political level is promoted, but also understanding between cultures. Over 2 million people in Poland learn German, making the country the largest number of German learners in the world. Such initiatives help ensure that American compassion and cultural connections can be maintained in the future.
Conclusion: The coming months promise many exciting opportunities for exchange between Erlangen-Höchstadt and Tarnowskie Góry. The commitment of both counties suggests that the partnership will continue to grow and flourish, strengthening both cultural and personal bonds. Good neighbors can rightly serve as a model for other countries.
We look forward to the upcoming events and see the partnership as an important step towards a harmonious and fruitful German-Polish community. You can find out more about the current developments at Wiesentbote, circle of friends and Foreign Office.
