Bavarian Child Cancer Day: Hope and help for little fighters!
What's new in the world of children's oncology? From July 15th to 17th, 2025 it is again the "about cancer in children". The Kionet, the Bavarian Children's Oncological Network, organizes the 2nd Bavarian Child Cancer Day at various locations, including in the University Hospital Erlangen. This event should not only inform, but also promote the exchange between those affected and specialists. Prof. Dr. Markus Metzler, spokesman for the Kionet and the children's oncological center in Erlangen, is optimistic and emphasizes the importance of these events for the affected children and their families. UK Erlangen reports that a special information and exchange program will take place in the Erlangen children's clinic on the first day, July 15th, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
"Cancer diseases in children are serious strokes of fate," it continues. After all, four out of five affected children can be healed. But the treatment options are in question for every fifth child. The Kionet is committed to developing innovative therapies and new healing methods in order to help the affected children in Bavaria in the best possible way. With the help of networking and intensive exchange of knowledge across clinic boundaries, access to modern therapies should be improved.
a strong community for those affected
The cooperation in this network has existed for seven years and extends through various children's oncological centers in Bavaria, including Augsburg, Munich (LMU and TU), Regensburg and Würzburg. In addition to medical experts, psychosocial support, sports and physiotherapy, nutritional medicine, research institutions, self-help groups and political decision-makers are also part of this comprehensive network. This has led to the number of therapy lessons in Bavaria and has further improved access to clinical studies.
The upcoming children's cancer day also has an important social aspect: it should indicate the special needs of children and adolescents who are patrils of cancer and appreciate the commitment of the professional groups that are committed in this area. Not only are the patients and their families, but also Survivor as well as everyone who is interested in this important topic. Representatives of the Bavarian Center for Cancer Research and Political Guests will also be on site and enrich the exchange.
