Cycling project for peace: 20 years of friendship between Erlangen and Tarnowskie Góry
In a very special campaign, the cycling project of the Freundeskreis Erlangen-Höchstadt/Tarnowskie Góry was launched in a very special campaign on June 26, 2025. On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the partnership between the two counties, District Administrator Adam Chmiel gave the official starting shot. The cycling group sets its way from Tarnowskie Góry via Opole, Swidnica, Prague and Pilsen to Erlangen-Höchstadt, and not only delights the participants, but also the numerous supporters of the initiative. What should the project do? In the foreground is advertising for a democratic Europe without limits under the sign of friendship and peace. The participants - five Poles and eight Germans - will cover a distance of around 900 kilometers. The management has taken over Dariusz Wyypol from the Powiat Tarnogorski, supported by Manfred Bachmayer, the chairman of the Freundeskreis Erlangen-Höchstadt/Tarnowskie Góry. Michal Kampa, an employee of the District Office Tarnowskie Góry, and Bernhard Richter, an active member of the Freundeskreis, are responsible for technical support.
the route and the spirit of friendship
The route leads the cyclists through picturesque landscapes and close cities, crossing Moosbach, among others. There the group will be welcomed by Mayor Armin Bulenda on June 19, who welcomes you in front of the town hall at 9:00 a.m. In this stopover there is also a planned handover of the district of Erlangen and Höchstadt and the Powiat Tarnogorski, which is intended to symbolize the deep connection between the two counties. The night of June 18 to June 19th in the market town of Moosbach.
This cycling is more than just a sporting event; It reflects the spirit of cross -border cooperation that has developed since the end of the Second World War. This type of "small" foreign policy, as is also practiced on the Upper Rhine, not only promotes exchange, but also strengthens the economic and cultural networking of the regions. Because, despite the different political systems, it is actively worked on an united and democratic Europe, where project initiatives of this kind promote integration.
support and commitment
The support from the district councilors Alexander Trüthart (Erlangen-Höchstadt/CSU) and Adam Chmiel (Tarnowskie Góry) shows how important these two counties are. Her commitment not only sets a sign of friendship, but also promoted the dialogue between cultures. The historical framework and the prerequisites for cooperation are given, as has been visible in other initiatives in the past.
In a time when European unity is often on the test, this cycling project is a shining example of how to make a decisive contribution to strengthening the European idea at the local level. The group is happy to continue their path, and not only to cross the limits, but also the hearts of people.
