61 children celebrate the first High Mass: A celebration for the community in Erding!
A special event was celebrated in the Erding-Langengeisling parish association on June 11, 2025: 61 children were able to receive their first Holy Communion. Preparations began at the beginning of January under the motto “You are a note in God’s melody”. During this time, the children not only learned the basics of faith, but also how to discover Jesus as a friend and companion in their lives.
Committed parents, 29 mothers and fathers in total, supported the little ones in small groups, and numerous meetings took place in and around the church. A highlight of the joint preparation was a trip to the forest adventure trail in Freising, which was very well received. Community representative Christiane Wolters didn't miss the opportunity to thank everyone involved for their commitment, which made a significant contribution to this festive day.

Preparation and meaning of first communion
First Communion is a significant step in the life of a Catholic child and usually takes place in the third year of school. The preparation consists of school and extracurricular parts. Religious education takes place at school, while extracurricular preparation usually takes place in small groups, called communion groups. Here the children learn more about their faith and deepen their knowledge through stories, games and crafts. You can also design your own communion candle, which is an important part of your celebration.
According to edkath.de, the Eucharist celebration is closely linked to the liturgy of the word, and communion as a sign of union with Jesus in the symbol of bread and wine is understood by the community as a shared gift. This exchange and the resulting community are the roots of the faith and are also based on the tradition in which the first Sunday after Easter, the "White Sunday", is chosen for the celebrations.
Registration for the first communion in 2026 will be distributed in the elementary schools in Erding and Langengeisling at the beginning of the new school year. It is important for interested parents not to miss this step in order to best prepare their children for the journey of faith.
The celebration of First Communion remains an unforgettable experience in the lives of children and their families, which is celebrated with much joy and community.
