Pastor Ferdinand Albrecht: A life for the Pyrbaum parish ends

On June 22, 2025, the region lost one of its valued pastors. Pastor i. R. Ferdinand Albrecht died in the Augsburg Clinic at the age of 86. His decades of work in the Catholic Church made him an important figure in the Upper Palatinate and beyond.

Albrecht's path in pastoral care began with his ordination as a priest in 1967. His first temporary jobs took him to Hörmannsdorf and Penzenhofen before he came to Weißenburg as a second co-operator in 1968. A year later he took over the office of charity provisional in Abenberg. He experienced his heyday as a pastor in Pyrbaum, where he led the parish from 1990 to 2005. He was also active as a school chaplain and religion teacher at the Ostendorfer-Gymnasium in Neumarkt until 2002 and left a lasting mark there.

A life for the community

His achievements will be remembered with great gratitude, especially in Pyrbaum. The market town honored Albrecht with the Citizens' Medal, a sign of appreciation for his work and commitment. After his active time, he spent his retirement in Wemding, where he continued to stay in contact with people.

During his career he had numerous temporary jobs and worked as a co-operator in Lauterhofen and in various other communities. In 1977 he took over the pastorate in Töging and shortly afterwards was a part-time provisional in Kottingwörth. His pastoral care touched many people and made him a familiar face in the region.

Farewell and remembrance

Ferdinand Albrecht's farewell is followed by a requiem, the details of which are yet to be announced. It is expected that many companions, community members and friends will pay their last respects to say goodbye to a man who had a lasting impact on the lives of those he cared for.
