Marco Leitl presents a unique family book for Oberdolling
In Oberdolling, a new family book is causing a lot of interest among the locals. Marco Leitl from Munich has made it his mission to examine the history of the residents of Oberdolling and surrounding towns. He was inspired by his grandmother Margarethe Koch, who was born in Oberdolling in 1928. The book, created with a lot of passion and commitment, is presented on the occasion of the 1200th anniversary of the districts and comprises almost 600 pages, which not only shed light on the occasional entries in church registers, but also provide valuable information for anyone interested.
The family book is entitled “Family Book Oberdolling” and the first edition was self-published. It is a real treasure trove for genealogists and history buffs and contains information about the periods from 1612 to 1903. From the towns of Oberdolling, Unterdolling and Hagenstetten it is also relevant for Harlanden and St. Lorenzi from 1876. When it comes to research, Leitl primarily used church records and letter protocols to fill the book with lively stories. The data is arranged alphabetically so that the family connections are clearly visible.
Unique work for the region
Richard Kürzinger, a member of the “Dolling History Group”, highlights the work as unique in the Eichstätt district. Mayor Josef Lohr describes the book as a valuable introduction to genealogy research for the citizens of Oberdolling. The interest at the book launch was enormous: sales figures rose rapidly and many copies were sold out within a very short time.

However, collecting and processing the data was not entirely easy. The church records of St. George in particular have large gaps; only the periods from 1724 to 1766 and 1806 to 1903 are documented. Harlanden and St. Lorenzi could only be taken into account from 1876 because they were re-parished that year. It is noticeable that Weißendorf is not mentioned in the book because this place belonged to the parish of Bettbrunn. Marco Leitl's great commitment is now helping to keep the region's history and family ties alive.
Future releases
There is hope for everyone who came away empty-handed in the first rush: Mayor Lohr has announced that a few copies are still available in the municipal office and a reprint is possible. With a little patience, anyone interested can delve into the community's past and discover their family's roots. Further information about the book can be found directly at Donaukurier and on Genealogy.net.
