Discover the beauty: hiking on the Altmühltal panorama path!

If you love nature and like to sniff a little story, the Altmühltal Panoramaweg is a real delicacy for you. One of the most beautiful stages leads from Dollnstein to Eichstätt and has a lot to offer. The path winds along the slope on about 14 to 16 kilometers and offers a fantastic view of the Altmühl in the valley on the right and the striking rocks on the left. This reports the Donaukurier .

starts at Dollnstein station, from where the hikers immerse themselves in a wonderful nature. The path leads leisurely to Obereichstätt, followed by a steep climb into the forest. There is even a stop on the longest wooden bench in Germany, which is over 35 meters long and was made from a single trunk. This attraction was built in 2011 and invites you to linger.

fossils and views

The further course of the path over the plateau offers some surprises. The view of the Allosaurus on the fossil burgation on the Blumenberg is particularly impressive. For those who want to experience the primeval feeling up close, there is the opportunity at the kiosk to borrow tools for fossil search. The Wanderkompass emphasizes that the path also leads past important geotopes, including the 100 most beautiful geotope in Germany.

After a descent into the valley, it goes uphill again to the “Hohes Cross” viewpoint. Here the climb is rewarded with a breathtaking view of the Willibaldsburg and the old town of Eichstätt. The area is not only known for its rocks, but also for its interesting history. A historical hazelnus plantation, created during the First World War of French prisoners of war, is still part of the region.

The plantation was forgotten after the Second World War, but the landscape maintenance association restored it again in 2018. The last section of the route runs through a light forest and again offers views of the old town Eichstätter before going down into the city via the "new path".

Eichstätt discover

Arrived in Eichstätt, the hikers not only expect a historic old town, but also numerous sights such as the impressive Eichstätter Dom and the Willibaldsburg, which houses two museums. The city offers the perfect place for a cozy coffee break outdoors to enjoy the impressions of Italian flair to the fullest, such as the Komoot recommends.

The Altmühltal itself is known for its impressive landscapes and activities. The region, which extends from the Altmühlquelle to Kelheim, became famous for the discovery of the first Archeopteryx in 1861. While hiking in the area, children can search for fossils on designated quarries and experience the fascinating primal history.

So if you are looking for a varied hiking adventure, you should never miss the stage from Dollnstein to Eichstätt. Here you can not only enjoy nature, you can also awaken history and geology interests and let your mind wander. A real experience for the whole family!
