The curtain rises at the Theater am Burgerfeld in Markt Schwaben! With a strong swing into the new year, the stage brings an exciting crime comedy to the stage that means the world. “Drink or Die” by Sam Bobrick will premiere on January 3, 2026. In this refreshing performance, talented actor Michael Siegert takes on the role of former stockbroker Henry Flemming, who leaves his career behind and ventures into unknown territory.
The plot revolves around Flemming's decision to leave the hectic world of financial markets and try his hand at being a private detective. What begins as a pursuit of “real life” quickly turns into an exciting adventure full of shady characters, mysterious deaths and, of course, a lot of drinks. Flemming soon realizes that reality is often even more absurd than anything he has experienced in the stock market, and so the story unfolds its humor and surprising twists.
A bridge to philosophy
The theme of the absurd, which regards human life as inexplicable, is reflected in this performance. Inspired by the influence of the absurdist philosophy, which was largely influenced by Albert Camus, the crime comedy evokes the idea that the search for meaning is often in vain and that the absurdity of life is a constant companion. Camus' reflections on the meaninglessness of life and the three possible reactions to it - suicide, acceptance of faith or accepting continued existence - create an exciting philosophical background for the piece. This is reflected in Flemming's journey, fighting against the absurdities of life rather than giving in to resignation.
The director Sabine Bogenrieder gives the stage play the right touch with her creative handwriting. Her good knack for humor and dramaturgy promises a performance that will make you both laugh and think. Every evening in the theater becomes an experience that not only arouses curiosity, but also raises the question of the extent to which reality can be perceived as absurd.
