FC Zeholfing crowns penalty shooting at a dramatic city championship!

An exciting weekend for all football enthusiasts in Landau: The 15th football city championship came to an end in a rousing penalty shootout. The decision was made on July 6, 2025 on the site of the Höckinger Sportsverein, where the hosts provided a great ambience. Mayor Matthias Kohlmayer, Thomas Lorenz and Xaver Hagn gave the impetus to a tournament that not only celebrated local football, but also brought together the community.

After exciting encounters and a nerve -wracking final, the winner was called FC Zeholfing. They prevailed 4: 3 against FSV Landau in the penalty shootout after the game ended in the regular season and the extension. It was particularly gratifying that the captain Andreas Kammerloher celebrated this triumphant success on his 30th birthday.

The list of participants of the city championship, which included SG Höcking-Ganacker, FC Zeholfing and TSV Mamming in addition to FSV Landau, promised exciting games. FC Zeholfing started with a 3-1 win against Höckinger SV, while FSV Landau defeated TSV Mamming 2-1. In the game for third place, TSV Mamming prevailed 2-0 against the Höckinger.

In the final, however, there was no goal. The spectators experienced an intensive show of strength between FSV Landau and FC Zeholfing before going to the penalty shootout. There the Zeholfingen nerve strength proved and secured the challenge cup and 300 euros in prize money, while the FSV Landau received 200 euros for second place. The other teams were not forgotten either - each participant got a game ball.

The city championship was not only a football tournament, but also part of the celebrations on the occasion of the 800th anniversary of the city and the 25th anniversary of the FSV Landau. The main sponsor, the VR-Bank Landau-Mengkofen, made a total prize money of 750 euros available and also secured support for the next few years. Michael Ostner from VR-Bank emphasized the commitment to the football community in the region and promised a continuation of the cooperation for 2026.

Overall, the event once again shows how important football is for cohesion and coexistence in the region. Mayor Matthias Kohlmayer also paid respect for the achievements of all participating teams. While the sun was beaming that day, it was the football that made people's hearts beat faster.
