Discover nature: LBV Coburg summer hike on August 19th!

Nature invites you, and not just in meadows and forests! The LBV Coburg is hosting a free natural history summer hike on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at 5 p.m. The meeting point for anyone interested is the parking lot of the Landhotel Altmühlaue in Bad Rodach, Roßfeld district. The hike is led by the experienced biologists Frank Reißenweber and Gerhard Hübner and promises to be a great experience for nature lovers and those who want to become one.

What can participants expect? The tour takes you along an approximately four kilometer long circular route, taking you along the hidden nature conservation areas north of Roßfeld, which have been secured by LBV Coburg since the 1980s. These areas are not only a habitat for many animal and plant species, but also part of a successful strategy to preserve biodiversity. Many of the areas are leased sustainably to farmers who are committed to environmentally friendly management.

Hike through the natural landscape

The hiking route runs along the idyllic Rodachaue, leads over the Altmühle, through the forest on Frauenberg and back over the Beerberg. The participants have the chance to perhaps even observe one or two green rams, the colorful checkerboard butterfly or majestic swallowtails.

Not only is the hike itself a highlight, but the rest together afterwards will also create a cozy atmosphere. It is advisable to wear sturdy shoes as the paths can be challenging depending on the weather. By the way, the event will unfortunately be canceled in the event of heavy rain. A short registration at team.coburg@lbv.de is recommended to reserve a place.

Commitment to nature conservation

The LBV Coburg has now secured almost 30 hectares of nature conservation areas in the Coburg region, including recently 18 new areas with over 16 hectares that were purchased by the city of Bad Rodach. These new areas also include the Wüstenberg and the Beerberg, which offer wonderful all-round views. With a total of 245 hectares in the Coburger Land, the LBV shows its commitment to nature conservation and plans to further expand its protected areas and enhance them through various maintenance and design measures.
