Beer price shock in Bavaria: where the half pint now costs over 4 euros!

A cold pint of beer is simply part of a visit to the Bavarian beer garden - especially when the weather is right and the sun is shining. But how much do you have to pay for it? A current study by Antenne Bayern sheds light on the price spiral and shows interesting regional differences.

The study, conducted between May 19 and May 23, 2025, surveyed ten beer gardens in each government district. It turned out that the national average price for a pint of beer is now 4.06 euros. This means that the 4 euro mark has been exceeded for the first time, which raises the question: Who is getting the best deal on this tasty temptation?

Prices in detail

The price range is considerable and varies greatly from region to region. The cheapest place to toast is in Upper Franconia, where a half-cup costs an average of just 3.62 euros. On the other hand is Upper Bavaria, where the price reaches the highest value at 4.45 euros and is therefore 22 percent above the 2024 price.

  • Oberfranken: 3,62 Euro
  • Oberpfalz: 3,74 Euro
  • Mittelfranken: 3,99 Euro
  • Niederbayern: 4,03 Euro
  • Unterfranken: 4,27 Euro
  • Schwaben: 4,33 Euro
  • Oberbayern: 4,45 Euro

The rising prices cannot only be observed in the beer gardens. At Oktoberfest, the most famous folk festival in the world, the prices for pints of beer continue to rise. Those who are hoping for cheaper alternatives have to get creative and look in Upper Franconia, where the cheapest prices can now be found.

A drink with tradition

Beer is not just a simple drink in Bavaria - it is part of the culture and is part of every social gathering. As Antenne Bayern reports, it plays a central role on the drinks menus of pubs, beer gardens and restaurants. It is therefore not surprising that this survey is of great interest to both locals and tourists who want to enjoy the evening in the beer garden.

The differences in beer prices are clear and cannot only be attributed to regional preferences. They also reflect the economic conditions and the popularity of the respective regions. In Upper Bavaria you have to dig deep into your pockets to enjoy it, while in Upper Franconia you can treat yourself to half a pint at almost a bargain price.
