The emergency services themselves were not spared either. At 12:30 a.m., a police officer was injured by a fireworks battery that was knocked over. There was also an argument on Scheffelstrasse: a 21-year-old hit a 45-year-old in the face, and a broken cheekbone is suspected. On Hedwigstrasse, a group of four 15-year-olds were attacked by a 24-year-old, with all of them sustaining minor facial injuries.

A look at what's happening nationwide

If you look at events in Germany as a whole, the situation becomes more worrying. How ZDF Reportedly, five people lost their lives on New Year's Eve due to improper handling of fireworks. Many emergency services were among the injured. Tragically, a 24-year-old in Geseke died after setting off what was believed to be a self-made firecracker, while in Saxony two men, aged 45 and 50, died in explosions while using fireworks.

At least 400 people were arrested in Berlin after attacks on the police occurred there. In Munich in particular, there were riots in which several hundred people attacked police officers, which further escalated the situation.
