The association is proud to be able to win a coaching legend like Abes, which not only has a name in Germany, but also in international wheelchair basketball. Team manager Sebastian Gillsch expressed his enthusiasm for the new era, which begins with Abes as a head coach, and sees him a key person for further development in the team. The trainer, born in France and fluent in several languages, including German, will take responsibility for the sporting management.
Malik Abes brings with it a wide range of experience that extends over decades of coaching career. He has been working in the coaching business since 1989 and worked with numerous national teams such as Germany, France and Austria during this time. At the club level, he shaped the duet of the two Italian championship titles with Briantea 84 Cantù and the Austrian championship with the Flinkstones Graz. This impressive pallet of successes gives the RSV Bayreuth the opportunity to further develop both experienced players and young talents.
an important step for professionalization
With the commitment of ABES, RSV Bayreuth takes out a significant step towards professionalization. André Hopp, who now gives his coaching role as a player coach after three successful seasons, is retained as a player. Hopp is recognized as one of the main architects of previous success and his influence on the development of the team is undisputed. The association now pursues the vision of achieving a high level in training and in competitions through cooperation with Abes. This is seen as a signal for the focus on the new sporting and organizational requirements of the league.
Abes itself is enthusiastic about the challenge of further developing the potential of the team and the location. The trainer is convinced that the right mix of experience and fresh swing is required to bring the team to the next level. "I look forward to working with the RSV Bayreuth and I am confident that we can achieve a lot together," emphasizes Abes. The RSV hopes that this positive impulse will benefit both the veteran and the youngsters.
