Discover Bayreuth's green treasures: Open Garden Day!
The countdown has begun: On Sunday, June 29, 2025, it will be “open garden day” again in the Bayreuth district. From 11 a.m., numerous private gardens open their doors to garden lovers and the curious. This special event offers the perfect opportunity to explore lovingly designed green oases and be inspired by the variety of garden styles. Bayreuther Tagblatt reports that the participating gardens include not only classic perennial beds or cottage gardens, but also modern self-sufficient gardens that contain numerous treasures.
Thirty gardens are included, but five selected private gardens are particularly noteworthy. This includes Cornelia Pfefferle's cottage garden in Mistelgau, which with its 1,500 square meters, flowering perennials and an outdoor kitchen invites you to linger. In Gefrees, the Landgarten Gahn shows a natural garden with flower meadows and rare tomatoes on an area of 0.5 hectares. The educational garden of the Bayreuth district association in Bayreuth will also be visited, where the focus is on being close to nature and providing practical suggestions. The Masel Garden in Heinersreuth impresses with a collection of different hosta species and old fruit trees that offer shady retreats.
Experience diversity and promote exchange
The aim of this day of action is not only to share the joy of gardening, but also to promote a lively exchange between gardening enthusiasts. Here you can get to know new plants and exchange tips - a real treasure trove for every hobby gardener. The whole thing is organized by the Bavarian State Association for Horticulture and Land Conservation e.V. in close cooperation with local district associations and the committed hobby gardeners who open their gardens and provide insights into their private garden art. Horticultural clubs provide detailed information about the gardens that are open and what visitors should pay attention to.
Particular attention is paid to natural gardening. The gardens are intended to function as living ecosystems and provide a habitat for native plants and animals. The use of native plant species that are adapted to the local climate not only promotes aesthetics, but also supports the balance in nature, as is the case with... Mayinger Gardens is to be read. We work sustainably here and rely on natural methods for pest control and fertilization.
Information for visitors
Private gardens are a valuable asset and, not least for this reason, it is important to maintain civility. Visitors are asked to stay on the trails and ask permission when taking photos. When walking through the gardens, dogs should be kept on a leash and children should be kept in view at all times. So nothing stands in the way of a relaxed and educational day in the garden.
The “Garden Open Day” promises to be a real highlight for all garden lovers this year too. Look forward to many exciting insights into the green diversity of the Bayreuth district!
