Civil courage in Bamberg: Mohamed Hédi Addala Prize is awarded!

On June 15, 2025, a very special award will be awarded again in Bamberg: The "Mohamed Hédi Addala Prize for Civil Courage" will be awarded for the tenth time. Under the motto "Act instead of looking away", the city of Bamberg and the migrant and migrant advisory board want to appreciate and encourage civic engagement against violence, hatred and discrimination. This is an opportunity in which the Bamberg community can actively participate in an important social dialogue.

The price aims to honor people who have emerged through their commitment to peaceful conflict solutions, equality and integration of minorities and the intercultural dialogue. exemplary award winners and importance of civil courage

The award has already been awarded to numerous brave people. The former award winners include the association Fans Respect Fans e.V., bus driver Uwe Karl Smola, pastor Mirjam Elsel and the initiative group "Frau-Lebens-Freiheit". Such honors are not only recognition, but also a strong sign of civil courage, which should definitely be promoted in our society.

civil courage describes the courage to look, take a position and to stand up for your own beliefs. Especially in times when many people are often considered passive, it is important to involve the "silent majority" in dialogue. As the story of Sophie Scholl shows, who distributed leaflets during National Socialism and left her life for it, is sometimes associated with high risks. But each of us can act in everyday situations, be it with harassment in public space or in discrimination.

For a successful intercultural dialogue, it is crucial to take a look at opportunities and challenges. The [white book for the intercultural dialogue] describes the conditions for mutual understanding and shows how important places of encounter are. The focus is on promoting intercultural skills and citizen participation in democratic processes.

Therefore, the awarding of the "Mohamed Hédi Addala Prize for Civil Courage" is not only an outstanding event, but also an invitation to all Bamberger to stand up for an open and various society.

We look forward to numerous suggestions and an extraordinary festival of the civil courage in autumn!
