CITY CYCLING 2025: Cycling for fitness and a better climate in Bamberg!
The city and district of Bamberg will soon be back on two wheels! From theJune 23 to July 13, 2025finds this year's CITY CYCLING takes place, a competition that promotes cycling and gets momentum going. Under the motto “Ride along, stay fit!” Cyclists can finally show what they're made of again.
The official kick-off starts onJune 23rd at 4 p.mat Maxplatz with a ceremonial starting shot by our mayor Andreas Starke and district administrator Johann Kalb. We then go on a bike tour together through the water protection area and to the waterworks in the city forest. This tour ends in the cozy Gasthof Schiller in Wernsdorf, where you can celebrate the grand finale with an ice cream or a cool drink.
The goal: movement and sustainable mobility
But what is behind CITY CYCLING? The declared aim of this campaign is to bring more movement into everyday life, to discover new ways and to send a strong signal for sustainable mobility. Loud Federal Environment Agency The aim of the competition is to make the benefits of cycling tangible in everyday life. Individuals or teams from friends, family, clubs, schools or colleagues can take part and record the kilometers they have cycled in the free CITY CYCLING app or in the CITY CYCLING kilometer book.
The event is aimed at all ages and experience levels – everyone can take part! And as an additional treat, there are prizes for the most committed teams and the most hard-working individual cyclists. Participation is possible until the last of the 21 days of the campaign, so don't be shy, just register and cycle along!
A Europe-wide phenomenon
The CITY CYCLING competition is not a local phenomenon, but has established itself as an international competition. Between thatMay 1st and September 30thCommunities can take part in this competition and select the most cycling-active communities, teams and individuals. Every year around 300,000 people from around 900 cities take part and together cycle an astonishing distance of 60 million kilometers!
The idea behind it is simple and effective: motivate people in a playful way to cover everyday journeys by bike. No matter whether you go to work, school or shopping - the bike is not only a great means of transport, but also protects the environment. However, in order to sustainably promote the switch to bicycles, good cycling infrastructure is also needed. Local politicians are encouraged to actively take part in the competition in order to find out for themselves what cycling conditions are like locally.
The CITY CYCLING campaign supports this Climate Alliance the communities with IT infrastructure, PR materials and much more - so that numerous cyclists in the city and district of Bamberg are motivated to pedal.
