Bamberg Sport Fishing Club: Successful Annual General Meeting 2025!

The annual general meeting took place on March 30, 2025 in the boathouse in the grove Sport fishing club Bamberg and surroundings e.V. instead of. The event was well attended with 85 members in attendance. On this evening, not only was the club's successful development acknowledged, but the current membership of an impressive 1,409 people was also announced - a clear increase compared to the previous year. What is particularly pleasing is the increase in young members, which has grown from 60 to 68. But in addition to the positive news, there was also a serious moment: a minute's silence was held for four deceased club members who passed away in 2024.

Last year, a variety of events were organized in the club, including prize sheep heads and a fishing flea market, which enriched club life. Several members were honored for their long-standing commitment: five of them celebrated 60 years of membership and seven members celebrated 50 years of membership. Such awards are not only a sign of appreciation, but also strengthen the sense of community in the club.

Care of water bodies

A central point of the meeting was the report from the water monitors, who provided information about the maintenance measures carried out and the stocking program. These include carp, zander, trout and pike. News such as the establishment of zander nests in the Breitengüßbach quarry lake and the use of modern water analysis technology were presented. These measures are important to sustainably protect and revitalize the waters around Bamberg.

But the angling industry also faces challenges. Cormorants and otters pose a threat to the fish population. The association therefore supports the regional cormorant fund in order to find suitable means to deter the animals. A clear sign that the club not only stands up for anglers, but also for the environment and the protection of nature.

A new wind in the youth department

A highlight of the meeting was the election of Klaus Ramer as the new youth leader. He is supported by Leon Starklauf and Daniel Zink, who are active in youth work. Their job is to introduce new generations to the joy of fishing. A newly introduced legal regulation allows children aged seven and over to fish accompanied by a club member. This will certainly help to attract even more young people to this fun pastime.

The association has set itself a central project for 2025: a catfish population survey, which is to be carried out in collaboration with the Upper Franconia district's fisheries advisory service. Such projects demonstrate the association's commitment to research and development in the field of fisheries.

The Sportfischerverein Bamberg e.V. was founded on September 23, 1929 and has since developed into a contact point for anglers in the region. Whether for old anglers or young newcomers, the club's offerings are diverse and represent a valuable opportunity to connect with nature and learn from the experiences of others. With an active member base and clear goals in youth work and research, the association is committed to a sustainable future for angling in the region.
