Burglary in the Eglingen industrial area: witnesses urgently wanted!
A brazen break-in occurred in the Eglingen industrial area. Between November 28th and January 13th, a caravan that had been parked there for a long period of time was broken into. The 32-year-old owner from Bad Tölz couldn't hide his shock on Tuesday when the crime was discovered, because the perpetrators not only left material damage behind, but also took valuables worth around 2,000 euros. This includes a high-quality vacuum cleaner, a notebook and a printer.
As Süddeutsche Zeitung reports, the unknown perpetrators pried open the front door and smashed the side windows. There was also significant damage to the interior of the caravan, estimated at around 1,500 euros. The Wolfratshausen police station has already taken up the case and is asking for any relevant information from the public. Witnesses can call 08171/4211-0.
The increasing number of burglaries in Germany
The incident in Egling is in the context of a general increase in burglaries, which have increased again after the corona pandemic. Statistics show that around 119,000 thefts were registered in Germany in 2023, including 77,800 residential burglaries. Although these numbers are the highest level since 2019, they are still over 50% lower than in 2015. According to Statista, the highest risk of burglary is in urban regions, while Bavaria is considered relatively safe in comparison.
What is particularly alarming is the fact that, despite the low burglary rate, the clearance rate for residential burglaries in Germany is extremely low. In 2023 this was 14.9%, while in Bavaria the rate is highest at 25.8%. It remains to be hoped that the police in Egling can quickly identify the perpetrators in order to restore some security to the affected residents.
An increase in crime can not only lead to financial losses, but can also significantly affect people's sense of security. The authorities are called upon here, because protecting against such crimes is also the responsibility of the community.
The investigation into the burglary in Egling is still ongoing and the police have already secured evidence at the crime scene. The community is invited to help solve the crime and provide information so that similar incidents can be avoided in the future. Anyone who observes anything should report it directly to the police.
