Demolition of the pedestrian bridge: Hikers in Bad Kissingen affected!
Bad Kissingen, the charming health resort in the heart of Bavaria, attracts hikers, walkers and cyclists alike. A popular destination on the routes is the picturesque Wittelsbach Tower, which sits enthroned on the Scheinberg. But it's not just the view of Bad Kissingen that's special, the hiking trails themselves also offer a lot to discover. Unfortunately, nature lovers now have to face an unpleasant circumstance: the old wooden walkway that made access to the tower easier will soon be demolished.
This dilapidated footbridge, which has been closed for over eight years, is located about 500 meters east of the Eiringsburg ruins and leads over the railway tracks on the Bad Kissingen – Gemünden route. The original purpose of the footbridge was to provide hikers with easy access to one of the region's most popular destinations. However, it is now clear that his days are numbered, like that Main Post reported.
The Wittelsbach Tower: A historical landmark
From the dilapidated footbridge, hikers always have a breathtaking view of the Wittelsbach Tower, which, at 33 meters high, looks back on a long history. It was inaugurated on September 15, 1907 and continues to demonstrate the appreciation for the region to this day. The tower was built by Dr. Wendelin Dietz suggested to replace the inadequate view from the Ludwigsturm. Particularly noteworthy are the beautiful lion sculpture and the materials from which the tower was built: shell limestone for the tower itself and green sandstone for the dome and other details, such as the balustrade, which give the structure a special charm. The informative page Wikipedia provides a detailed history of the tower.
The area around the tower is also a real gem in the region. The hiking trails in Bad Kissingen are well developed and invite you to take long tours and short walks. The paths lead through beautiful parks, deciduous forests and the picturesque Saale valley. Bad Kissingen is the starting point of the premium hiking trail “Der Hochrhöner®”, known for its natural and varied design. Guided guest walks are also on the program; perfect for anyone wanting to explore the area with other explorers. Further information is in the Tourist information and available in the souvenir shop.
For those looking to set off on their next hike, one can only hope that the demolition of the footbridge does not mean the end of a popular route. With a good dose of optimism, nature lovers in Bad Kissingen and the surrounding area can continue to enjoy the beauty of nature and the historical treasures that this region has to offer.
