Black smoke over Augsburg: steam locomotive causes confusion!

What's going on above the main train station in Augsburg? On Whit Monday, shortly before 9.30 a.m., a thick black smoke, which rose towards the main train station, excited the attention of passers -by at the Gögginger Brücke. Curious stopped and wondered if it was burning. The city of Augsburg and Deutsche Bahn (DB) were immediately contacted, but the inquiries initially remained without answers. A spokesman for the DB commented with the words: "At the moment, nothing is known at DB," which only further fueled speculation among passers -by.

The clarification of the facts was not long in coming. The cause of the smoke was finally a steam locomotive of the Ammersee steam railway, which drove on Whit Monday and naturally is not exactly smoke-free. The nostalgic steam train ride from Augsburg to Utting am Ammersee started as usual at 9:30 a.m. and led to the unexpected spectacle over the city. Passengers should be aware that there can occasionally lead to such dramatic effects.
