Children celebrate peace at the Ulrichs pilgrimage service in Augsburg!
On July 10, 2025, the Diocese of Augsburg experienced a special occasion: the Ulrichs pilgrimage service, which this year was all about peace. In the picturesque setting of the St. Ulrich and Afra Basilica, Auxiliary Bishop Dr. Dr. Anton Losinger and the diocesan Caritas director Deacon Markus Müller the children of the Catholic day care centers. Here, in this venerable site, which is also the final resting place of St. Ulrich, a strong sign of hope was given. This year's Ulrichswoche, which is celebrated from July 3rd to 11th, has the motto: “Cheerful in hope, patient in distress” and will be opened by, among others, Munich's Cardinal Reinhard Marx, who will lead a pontifical vespers on July 3rd [katholisch.de](https://www.katholisch.de/artikel/62259-bistum-augsburg- Feiert-seinen-dioezesanpatron-den- Heiligen-ulrich) reports.
The atmosphere during the service was characterized by a special cheerfulness. Margret Färber, who is responsible for daycare pastoral care in the Diocese of Augsburg, expressed confidence: “Peace begins on a small scale.” This message was well received by those present. Deacon Markus Müller pointed out the importance of trust among the children and emphasized that their behavior serves as role models for adults. The children themselves showed through their creative contributions that they too can uphold peace.
Lively experiences for the little ones
The children's pilgrimage not only offered a celebratory church service, but also numerous varied activities. During storytelling workshops and a cheerful children's singing session with church musician Robert Haas, the little ones had the opportunity to raise their voices and have fun together. A highlight was making peace doves that were decorated with individual peace wishes. These beautiful works were ceremoniously brought to the service and then passed on to another daycare center.
The service ended with a personal blessing from Auxiliary Bishop Dr. Dr. Anton Losinger, Deacon Markus Müller and other clergy. “It was so beautiful to see the children come together and give each other a light of peace,” said one parent, as the children were fortified with a delicious snack after the service. A complete pleasure that also brought home new ideas and inspiration for your time together.
Ulrich's Week is an important part of church life in the diocese of Augsburg and is being celebrated particularly this year as it marks the 1,100th anniversary. Anniversary of Ulrich's episcopal ordination and the 1,050th. Focuses on the saint's death anniversary. The comprehensive program, which ranges from church services to devotions and pilgrimages, all takes place in St. Ulrich's Basilica, which is one of the "jubilee churches" of the Holy Year of the Catholic Church. In the midst of warlike and challenging times, such as those experienced by St. Ulrich in the 10th century, the shared celebrations and commitment of the youngest members of the community remind us of the importance of promoting peace and keeping it alive in people's hearts.
