Large-scale operation in Aschaffenburg: Warning shot when escaping with a stolen Porsche
A mysterious incident in Aschaffenburg recently caused a stir. On the evening of December 1, 2025, a stolen Porsche Cayenne was targeted by the police, which led to a major operation. Civilian officers stopped the vehicle in the Schönbornstrasse / Weichertstrasse area. What followed was a scenario that could only occur in an action movie.
The four inmates, all young men between the ages of 18 and 21, tried to escape when they were checked by the officers. In their panic, they ran away despite repeated requests to stay. A police officer was forced to fire a warning shot in the air when one of the suspects reached into his pocket, sparking heightened concern. Fortunately, no one was injured and the men were eventually arrested without further resistance.
The arrested
Among those arrested were two Afghans, an Ethiopian and a Spaniard. During the search of the vehicle and its occupants, several knives and pepper spray were seized. Particularly noticeable was a knife that could only be wielded with a firearms license. The Porsche itself had been stolen in Worms just a few days earlier and had stolen license plates.
A constant problem: car theft
The incident reflects a recurring problem that also extends beyond Bavaria's borders. According to the latest statistics, car thefts are on the rise and the numbers show that the situation is by no means easing. In Germany, thousands of cars are stolen every year, which poses enormous challenges not only to the police but also to the affected vehicle owners. Partial comprehensive insurance can help here by compensating for damage after theft and the vehicle owner is not left with the costs.
The investigation into this case is being continued by the criminal police in Worms and the Mainz public prosecutor's office. After initial police action, the suspects were released, which raises the question of how such incidents can be prevented in the future. Should we perhaps think about taking more targeted measures against the recurring car thefts? Especially with regard to the findings from GDV, which point to the growing risks.
It remains to be seen what steps the authorities will take now to avoid incidents like the one in Aschaffenburg in the future. However, one thing is certain: car theft remains an issue that requires not only local but also nationwide attention.
