Three new fire engines strengthen the fire department in the Aschaffenburg district!

In an exciting development for the fire departments in the Aschaffenburg district, equipment is being increased. How kfv-ab.de reported, three new fire engines (TLF) will be stationed at the volunteer fire departments in Hörstein, Laufach and Waldaschaff. These vehicles replace the older TLF 8/18 and are specifically designed for the challenges of modern firefighting and disaster operations.

The planned commissioning of the vehicles will take place at the beginning of 2026, after a comprehensive briefing of the emergency services. The main task is to fight forest and wildfires. The new vehicles are also ideally equipped for operations in the event of flooding.

Technical highlights of the new TLF

Each of the new fire engines comes with a water tank volume of 3,300 liters, with 300 liters reserved for the self-protection system. This self-protection system is an innovative feature that provides additional safety for the crew. Interestingly, the cabin of the vehicles is supplied with breathing air to ensure the safety of the emergency services.

The vehicles are designed for a crew of up to six people and have a variety of special features that make firefighting easier. These include, among other things, firefighting backpacks, D-hoses and fire patches. An automatic front spray device with four nozzles and a powerful pump model FPN 10-2000 guarantee an efficient water supply during operations.

Robust and all-terrain

Particularly noteworthy is the highly off-road chassis of the Unimog U5023 with 230 hp, which enables the vehicles to cross waters up to 1.2 meters high. The vehicles also offer an electric self-recovery winch with a pulling force of 50 kN, which is invaluable in difficult operations. The integrated tire pressure control system ensures optimal adaptation to different surfaces and can be conveniently operated from the driver's cab.

A heat protection package for all lines and cables ensures that the vehicles remain operational even under extreme conditions.

Insight into developments in Lower Saxony

The topic of fighting vegetation fires is highly topical throughout Germany. Special GFFF-V units have been set up in Lower Saxony since 2021 to meet the requirements of the European civil protection procedure. These units are equipped with modern vehicles, all kinds of technical support such as manual tire inflation and deflation systems and camera systems for complete monitoring. These vehicles also rely on high water capacity and off-road capability, comparable to the new TLF in the Aschaffenburg district.

In summary, it can be seen that investments in fire brigade technology in both Bavaria and Lower Saxony make an important contribution to the safety of the population in the event of a disaster. A well-equipped fire department is essential, especially in view of the increasing number of extreme weather conditions.
