European dialogue in Amberg: Together for security and sovereignty!
Yesterday evening in Amberg was all about European cooperation and the discussion of pressing issues. The dialogue event took place at the OTH's Musikomm in the run-up to the 74th state assembly of the Europa-Union Bayern e.V., which was attended by around a hundred guests. Manfred Weber, Member of the European Parliament, opened the evening with emphatic greetings, setting the tone for a lively discussion about “sovereignty, security and Europe”.
Moderated by Thorsten Frank, the state chairman, numerous guests contributed their perspectives. State Secretary Tobias Gotthardt, who took part in the discussion, called for more innovation and respect in European cooperation. He called for decisive solutions and a more efficient structure within the EU in order to better meet current challenges. This demand is in line with the ambitions of the new EU Commission, which is headed by Ursula von der Leyen, to strengthen freedom, security and sovereignty in Europe. [dbb.de].
Security perception in focus
A central topic of the discussion was the different perception of security within Europe, as Birgit Boeser from the European Academy of Bavaria noted. She particularly pointed out the contrasting perspectives between the Baltic states, Germany and Spain. At the same time, guests raised questions about the Bundeswehr's public relations work in the education sector. Thomas Rudner, former MEP, raised the appointment of Andrius Kubilius as the first EU Commissioner for Defense and Space. This is a step towards integrating more diplomacy into the EU's security policy concerns.
Urs Herding, CEO of Amberger Herding GmbH, added that more flexible solutions are also necessary for defense. He advocated transferring more competencies to smaller units in order to be able to respond more quickly to the diverse challenges. Those present agreed on Ukraine as a victim of Russia's war of aggression, but had different opinions on cooperation in defense issues, such as the Eurofighter.
A reception with a personal touch
After the lively debate, the city of Amberg invited people to a reception in the old town hall, where Mayor Michael Cerny and Hermann Kucharsky, the local chairman, also had their say. Discussions continued in a relaxed atmosphere and ideas for strengthening the EU were exchanged.
The next day brought the state assembly of the Europa-Union Bayern e.V., where further in-depth discussions about the European future were on the agenda. This dialogue event, which followed previous topics such as “Digital Euro” and “Europe after the federal election”, shows that the European dialogue remains alive in Bavaria and continues to gain importance in order to create new perspectives. oberpfalzecho.de emphasizes the importance of such formats in order to actively address Europe's challenges.
The EU's political landscape will be dominated by innovation and adaptation over the next few years. The challenges ahead, such as migration, social justice and climate change, will shape the EU's actions. The strategic focus of the new Commission is to create sustainable prosperity, security and empowerment for all European citizens. european-union.eu highlights the priorities set for the 2024-2029 term and shows the way forward.
