Upper Palatinate Alb and Jura: Regional development takes off!

There is reason to be happy in the Amberg-Sulzbach district: two new Integrated Rural Developments (ILE) have been officially recognized. The ILE Oberpfälzer Alb and the ILE Oberpfälzer Jura, which are made up of a large number of communities, are intended to sustainably advance the region. The ceremonial recognition took place in the König-Ruprecht Hall of the district office and was a memorable moment that recognized the good cooperation between the municipalities involved and the Office for Rural Development (ALE) Upper Palatinate.

Kurt Hillinger, head of ALE Oberpfalz, presented certificates and fruit trees to the mayors of the participating communities and emphasized the importance of the event. These new ILEs have developed an Integrated Rural Development Concept (ILEK) that serves as a guide for future development. It includes six fields of action that cover essential aspects such as public services, internal development, tourism, mobility and energy supply.

Municipalities of the new ILEs

The ILE Upper Palatinate Jura is made up of the municipalities of Ammerthal, Ebermannsdorf, Ensdorf, Hohenburg, Kastl, Rieden, Schmidmühlen and Ursensollen. On the other hand, the ILE Oberpfälzer Alb includes the communities of Birgland, Etzelwang, Illschwang, Neukirchen bei Sulzbach-Rosenberg and Weigendorf. This means that almost all municipalities in the Amberg-Sulzbach district, with the exception of Amberg, Sulzbach-Rosenberg and Kümmersbruck, have organized themselves into four municipal associations.

The region's motto “move more together” reflects the vision of strengthening the quality of life and future viability of the member municipalities. It is a collaborative approach to effectively address challenges and develop solutions not just locally, but regionally. The ILEK is intended to serve as an orientation and decision-making support for politics and administration.

Support from the ALE

Hillinger promised the communities financial and personnel support from the ALE Upper Palatinate. This financial support will be crucial in order to achieve the goals set in the ILEK and to advance the projects. District Administrator Richard Reisinger praised the harmonious cooperation with the ALE and emphasized how important such initiatives are for the further development of the district.

Such regional developments are not only important for the Amberg-Sulzbach district, but also contribute to more stable and sustainable rural development, which is required throughout Germany and beyond. Initiatives like this are in line with the concept of “alternative development”, which is promoted by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), among others, in order to support rural areas and create perspectives.

Through the ILE projects, the communities send a strong signal for cooperation and a spirit of innovation, both of which are crucial for making rural areas attractive and worth living in. So stay tuned to see what these new ILEs will do for the Amberg-Sulzbach region!
