Local supply in the Amberg-Sulzbach district: opportunities and challenges!
In the district of Amberg-Sulzbach, the local supply is up for debate. On July 9, 2025, an information evening took place in the Kopf inn in Altmannshof, organized by regional manager Katharina Schenk. A comprehensive local supply study by the Society for Market and Paragraph Research (GMA) was presented here, which is intended to show how the nationwide care of the population can be improved. According to this study, all residents reach a powerful local supplier within 15 minutes. Nevertheless, there are questionable care bottlenecks in several municipalities, especially on the eastern and western edge of the district, where numerous places provide without sufficient local supply.
There are 20 discounters and 13 supermarkets in the district, but the concentration of the offers is in the larger places such as Sulzbach-Rosenberg and Kümmersbruck. 51.4 % of the citizens do their shopping in their place of residence, while 33.2 % shop in neighboring communities. 88 % of the purchases are connected to the car, which increases the problem of accessibility in rural areas. In addition to their own mobility, 42 % of those surveyed see clearly improvement in the local supply offer. The situation on site
The study also shows that the citizens in Sulzbach-Rosenberg are satisfied with 86 % overall, while in Ebermannsdorf only 15 % of the population can take a positive balance. The operating closures for bakeries, butchers, pharmacies and inns are particularly alarming, which significantly weaken the local supply. Despite overall good basic medical care, some municipalities have to fight with deficits in care facilities.
Various innovative concepts for improving local supply were presented as part of the information evening. These include:- ** market shop concept in Hohenburg **: A locally rooted commitment to regional products and social meeting points.
- ** Hutzelhof in Weißenberg **: A connection concept between producers and consumers with 70 employees and 20 hectares
- ** village shop **: Regional products are offered in this walk -in box - already at 36 locations in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
- ** Mobile village shop of the Ile Steinwald alliance **: A supermarket on wheels that offers almost everything that demands daily needs.
- ** supermarket without staff (corner M) **: Here, customers can choose from a regional range in a self-service shop opened around the clock.
a look ahead
District Administrator Richard Reisinger emphasizes that the identification of problems is not sufficient; It takes argumented solutions. The holistic approach to local supply will be of increasing importance in the future, especially in structurally weak regions. Concepts such as the smart shopping facilities, in which there are no health insurance staff and that open around the clock, could be the key to modern local supply. These new ideas, as well as the models that have been proven for years, could decide whether the villages will remain alive in the future.
The information evening offered the citizens, as well as the mayor, district councils and regional initiatives, the opportunity to actively participate in the discussion. It is already clear: the development of these care routes is not only a challenge, but also an opportunity for the Amberg-Sulzbach district.
