Today, October 14, 2025, the German Weather Service (DWD) warns of dense fog fields, which can lead to severely limited visibility in large parts of the region. Motorists should prepare for sudden visibility restrictions, particularly in the Memmingen, Kaufbeuren, Ostallgäu and Unterallgäu districts, where the lowest level warning is valid until 10 a.m. While the city of Kempten and the Lindau district are spared from these warnings today, road users in the affected areas should be careful.
As we all know, visibility is the be-all and end-all when driving a car, and this must be given special attention in fog. The warning has been in effect since 3 a.m. and it is particularly important to adapt your driving style accordingly. It is particularly advisable to use the rear fog light when visibility is less than 50 meters. However, this may only be switched on when visibility is particularly poor in order to draw the attention of other road users to your own vehicle. Tips for safe driving in fog
As the ADAC experts note, it is important that drivers always use the low beam function in fog. You should also avoid using the high beam as it tends to worsen visibility. Fog lights, on the other hand, improve visibility and can be used together with or instead of low beams. Anyone driving in dense traffic should also keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front. A rule of thumb is: at least one meter distance for every kilometer per hour of speed.

- Abblendlicht muss bei Sicht unter 150 Metern auf Autobahnen, unter 100 Metern außerorts und unter 60 Metern innerorts eingeschaltet werden
- Falsche Verwendung der Nebelschlussleuchte kann teuer werden: 20 Euro Verwarnungsgeld, bei Gefährdung bis zu 35 Euro
