When summer is coming into Bavaria, it is time for sociable get -together in the beer gardens. A very special place has now secured the predicate "Beautiful beer garden in Schwaben": the Milch fungus in Lindau. This charming beer garden, located below the Looserturm on Sina-Kinkelin-Platz, was awarded by the Bavarian State Monument Office, which has published a list of the most beautiful beer gardens in Bavaria. A beer garden was each selected for each administrative district and the state capital of Munich.
The milk mushroom has a long history: it was produced in Wangen in 1952 and moved to his current location in Lindau two years later. Interestingly, a total of only 49 copies of the milk mushroom were produced, and today there are only eight worldwide - a real collector's item. There are seven copies of these in Wangen, Bregenz, Regensburg, Leopoldstadt (Vienna), Oldendorf (North Rhine-Westphalia), Mardorf and Rosengarten (Lower Saxony). Recently, three new milk mushrooms were even set up in Wangen, which preserved the historical legacy.

The owner of the milk mushroom, Theo Kiapidis, who leased the Kiosk in 2014 and took possession of his possession in 2016, has recently operated the beer garden himself. This year, however, he handed over the scepter to Nicolas Schmok. Kiapidis also plans to open a crepperie and ice cream parlor on the Lindauer island and leads the "Crazy Sox" together with his wife.
Not only the picturesque location and the quality of the food and drinks make the milk fungus a special place. The former director Anton Waldner, who designed the milk mushrooms in the 1950s, wanted to create a piece of Bavarian culture and tradition with the mushroom -shaped sales stand. The red roof with white dots quickly became a distinguishing sign, and the milk fungus developed into an important meeting point, long before mobile phones shaped our communication. Waldner was known for his innovative ideas and brought the concept of milk bars to Germany, which still found many imitators today.
