Compromise for Lindau's Eichwaldquartier: nature and allotment gardens combined!

A lot is currently happening in Lindau on Lake Constance: representatives of allotment gardeners, the BUND Nature Conservation Bavaria, the city administration and the project sponsor Andreas Schauer have now worked out a compromise in preparation for an urban development competition for the Eichwaldquartier. This is reported by the Swabian newspaper. After numerous discussions between the various interest groups, it is clear: the area behind the Lindauer Therme, which has been planned in a declaration of intent by the city council since 2017, is now to be developed. It was stipulated in the land use plan that the area would be designated as a permanent allotment garden in order to offer allotment gardeners more planning security.

However, there are still controversial points. The BUND Nature Conservation has a lawsuit pending before the administrative court against the development plan and the building permit for the thermal baths. Nevertheless, the current compromise shows progress by taking urban development, nature conservation and the concerns of allotment gardeners into account. The aim is to find a solution that does justice to all sides.

The cornerstones of compromise

The city council will publicly present the structural concept for variant G on November 26th. There is great hope that adaptations in the interests of nature conservation and allotment gardeners will be approved.

A look outside the box: Federal competition “Gardens in urban development”

By 2026, over 14,000 allotment gardens will be able to qualify in state competitions. A jury on which the BMWSB is represented will visit the participants and select the prize winners. This is a further sign of the appreciation of the allotment garden sector.

Support and community are also very important in Lindau. This development shows once again how important it is to hear the voices of everyone involved and to find solutions that do justice to both people and nature.
